We treated each aspect seriously. In the paragraphs below, Dr. Cazacu Corrado – Specialist in Dento-Alveolar Surgery answered our patients’ questions.

Is dental implant surgery painful or not?

The dental implant insertion intervention is not painful due to local anesthesia and the Conscious Sedation procedure, a substance with which the patient feels neither pain nor fear. This procedure is performed under the supervision of an ICU anesthesiologist, and the patient also benefits from a monitor of vital functions during surgery. So, the patient does not feel anything, he is sedated, but conscious and at the same time he is safe.

What is the degree of postoperative inflammation?

Another question we get very often is how much a patient can become inflamed. The answer is that this degree of inflammation differs from patient to patient, so it’s hard to make assumptions for each particular case. Elderly patients who have a higher degree of vascular fragility or patients with diabetes are more prone to inflammation and bruising. Maximum inflammation occurs in the morning of the third day, after which it subsides for up to a week. If the patient also has hematomas (bruises) they can persist for up to a week and a half or two. Inflammation is not only normal, but it is a step towards healing, as all the cells that contribute to wound healing begin to concentrate in the operated area and have healing actions. Before the intervention, but also after, the doctor prescribes a prescription containing anti-inflammatory, so we can keep the inflammation under control.

What is the duration of a dental implant insertion intervention?

The duration of an intervention depends on the complexity of the case, therefore also on the number of implants inserted or various artifices used such as: bone addition, PRF – accelerated healing or Sinus Lifting. If it involves the insertion of a single dental implant, the intervention can take 20 minutes, including anesthesia. When it comes to a complex intervention, for example with zygomatic implants, the intervention can last up to 4 hours. At the same time, the average duration of an intervention such as “Fixed Teeth in 24 hours on dental implants” is 1 hour and a half.

Can dental implants be inserted with extractions?

Dental implants can be inserted with extractions, as current techniques allow both procedures to be performed in a single session, but there are exceptions. Dr. Cazacu Corrado – Specialist in Dento-Alveolar Surgery explains that in the case of patients who have bone cysts or other local conditions that contraindicate this, the insertion of implants together with extractions is completely avoided.

Why do we fix a provisional work 24 hours after the dental implant intervention?

24 hours after the intervention, the patient receives a set of fixed teeth for a determined period of 4-6 months, during which time the gum heals, the bone stabilizes, and the patient does not remain without any teeth. He can eat a semi-liquid diet, soups, smoothies and smile normally. At 6 months, when everything is healed and stable, we take a new imprint specially designed for those final works.

Dr. Cazacu Corrado is the only Dento-Alveolar Surgery specialist in Romania accredited by the international ZagaCenter network based in Barcelona.
