Allergies in Dentistry: How to Recognize and Prevent Allergic Reactions to Anesthetics and Dental Implants

In dentistry, allergies can occur following the administration of anesthetic substances. From the first consultation, it is very important for the doctor to discuss with the patient about the substances that are used in the office. Thus, it can be ensured that the patient is well informed if he has allergies to them.  It is also advisable for the patient to perform allergological tests to see exactly what substances he has allergic reactions to, so that they can be replaced later in the dental office.
How do we recognize allergy to anesthetic?
At first, we can notice swelling of the lips, tongue or face, the appearance of red spots on the surface of the skin or itching. In extreme cases, the patient may suffer anaphylactic shock, caused by a sudden drop in blood pressure. Although it is an extremely rare situation, in any clinic it is necessary to have qualified personnel to deal with these situations.
Can allergic reactions to dental implants occur?
For patients who are known to have allergies, special tests are performed to detect if they are allergic to the alloys from which the implants are made. If the tests come out positive, we orient ourselves to find the right solution for our patients.  For more details about allergies in dentistry, we invite you to watch the article made for “Neatza with Răzvan and Dani”.
